Did you know Dell was celebrating the 10th anniversary of its Precision workstation brand? The new Precision M6300 is meant to jog your memory -- Dell describes the 8.5-pound laptop as the company's most powerful mobile workstation yet.
While a base configuration starts at $2,714, M6300 shoppers can push the envelope with dual-core processor choices including Intel's 2.6GHz Core 2 Duo T7800 and 2.8GHz Core 2 Extreme X7900, as well as up to 4GB of dual-channel memory with 36-bit addressing enabling up to 4GB of memory under a 64-bit operating system. Combining a new CPU with Nvidia's Quadro FX 1600M 512MB TurboCache (256MB dedicated memory) graphics accelerator, Dell boasts that the M6300 improves performance up to 70 percent in ISV-certified, graphics-intensive applications compared to the previous-generation Precision M90.
Two 17-inch widescreen displays -- with 1,440 by 900 or 1,920 by 1,200 resolution -- are offered, as are 7,200 rpm hard drives up to 200GB or a 32GB solid-state flash drive, plus Bluetooth and HSDPA mobile broadband wireless.
