AMD Unveils Five Professional Graphics Cards
By Eric Grevstad

AMD has followed the introduction of its flagship FirePro V8800 professional graphics card with four more ATI FirePro workstation cards spanning the high-end, midrange, and entry-level markets plus a low-profile quad-display card designed for financial institutions. All support DirectX 11, OpenGL 4.0, and OpenCL along with ATI Eyefinity multidisplay technology (OpenCL driver and SDK coming later in 2010).

Starting at the top, the FirePro V7800 boasts 1,440 stream processors and a 256-bit interface to 2GB of GDDR5 memory, offering superior performance in a single-slot form factor. Two DisplayPort and one dual-link DVI port team with ATI Eyefinity technology to drive up to three independent 30-inch displays at one time.

The ATI FirePro V5800 is a mid-market workhorse with 800 stream processors and a 128-bit interface to 1GB of GDDR5. It, too, supports up to three monitors. The model V4800 also features 1GB of GDDR5 plus 400 stream processors for entry-level CAD users, while the FirePro V3800 packs 512MB of DDR3 memory and a 30-bit display pipeline that offers accurate color reproduction and exceptional visual quality for up to two independent 30-inch displays.

Finally, the ATI FirePro 2460 Multi-View is a 512MB card with four Mini DisplayPort outputs for DisplayPort or DVI monitors for financial traders. It helps reduce power and cooling costs with an average board power consumption of just 13 watts.
